Travel Funds Approved!

It's official, we have the green light from our sponsors that travel and accommodations will be covered for 3 of us taking on the adventure (Erik, Kyle and Jimmy)!  Now all the funds we raise will go directly towards educating the villagers and helping build the stoves with Doug Millar's Mission.  Now you may ask what exactly are the stoves... the village of Chan Chen has been installing ONIL Cookstoves to replace their "3 stone" open fires.  The "3 stone" fire pits a pretty much what they sound like, 3 stones with an improvised cooking surface on top.   The problem with the fire pits is they are in the middle of the villagers homes and do not have any form of venting other than through the cracks in the walls and roof of the home.  The inadequate venting leads to respiratory problems in adults and especially with children.  The plan is to replace the "3 stone" pits with ingenious ONIL Plancha stoves developed by HELPS INTERNATIONAL that burn less wood more efficiently and are vented out of the home.   Each of the stoves cost roughly $200 to construct and install, so a little goes a long way.  We would like to also encourage the villagers to build skills with this project including but not limited to; manufacturing, installation, education (health and hygiene) and overall being an inspiration to other communities with pride and hope.  Below is a great info graphic detailing the stove and let us know if you have any questions or if you want to get involved!

Enter your email below the countdown clock if you want updates on the adventure as we post :)

Here are a couple route options depending on the wind...  we will probably have to tack the wind if it is not directly on our back so who knows how long it will really be :)

If the winds are from the East it will be about a 14 nautical mile (26 kilometre) voyage

If the winds are from the South it will be about a 16.5 nautical mile (30.5 kilometre) voyage
